Celebrate Jackie Robinson Day by taking a closer look at the creation of Jackie Robinson Day to honor the Hall of Fame infielder and civil rights pioneer.
Commissioner Emeritus Bud Selig, a member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2017, will discuss the work done to sustain Jackie Robinson's legacy. Selig will discuss the 50th anniversary celebration of breaking the color barrier, the retirement of number 42 across baseball, and the reemergence of the use of number 42 on Jackie Robinson Day.
Thanks to the support from The Ford Motor Company, this program is free of charge.
An influential owner throughout the 1970s and 80s, Bud Selig was named the MLB's acting commissioner in 1992, guided the game through the dark days of the 1994-95 strike and then was named commissioner in 1998. (Milo Stewart Jr. / National Baseball Hall of Fame)
